Christmas Day is only a month away, and there are so many opportunities across the county to get into the festive spirit and start doing some Christmas shopping! From city centres full of hundreds of stalls, to quaint festive markets in the depths of Devon, there are plenty of events to choose from… so here are five of the best Christmas Markets to visit in Devon!
Exeter Cathedral Christmas Market: November 18th – December 18th
The Christmas Market that surrounds Exeter Cathedral from November 18th is one of the best in the county; it really is a labyrinth of winding lanes, stalls, fairy lights, sights and smells. With over 90 festive chalets to explore, see the best local arts, crafts, food and drink that Devon has to offer, as well live music and other festive events. And there’s no rush to get there, as the market runs daily from November 18th, all the way through to December 18th, just rock up and soak it all in!
Plymouth Christmas Market: December 2nd – 29th
Boasting over 50 stalls, church choirs, street food, festive drinks, and magical illuminations; Plymouth Christmas Market transforms the city centre into a winter wonderland! With an open-air festive bar, food and drink, plenty of artisan gift stalls and live music and entertainment, it’s the perfect place to pick up some Christmas gifts and get into the Christmas spirit. And it’s suitable for all the family, with attractions and rides for your little ones, and plenty more family fun to be had.
Bideford Christmas Market: December 13th – 14th
The two-day Christmas market in Bideford attracts visitors from all over Devon who come to soak up the joyous atmosphere at the Affinity Devon Outlet Shopping Centre. With over 40 Christmas themed stalls to discover, street food, hot drinks, choirs, Christmas carols, and even a festive Gnome Trail… it’s no wonder Bideford Christmas Market is so popular!
Kingsbridge Christmas Market: December 4th
Kingsbridge is popular amongst locals for its weekly Farmers Market in the Town Square, but on December 4th this year the market will stay open, long into the night… to celebrate Christmas! Enjoy live entertainment, street food, hot drinks, and most importantly, a whole host of festive stalls coming from all over Devon. From garden ornaments to local gin, crepes, Christmas puddings and plenty more festive gifts, this is an excellent opportunity to get your Christmas shopping sorted!
Totnes Late Night Christmas Market: December 7th, 14th and 21st
Anyone who’s familiar with the quirky town of Totnes will not be surprised to hear that the town’s annual Christmas Market offers all the funk and character you could ask for! Amble up the narrow high street which is jam-packed with local vendors selling regional produce, arts and crafts, gifts, wavey clothing and so much more. With the pubs thriving and the live music flowing, this is an excellent way to get in to the festive spirit!
