One of Cornwall’s biggest events of the year is set to return to Wadebridge at the beginning of June.
More than 100,000 people travel to the town every year for one of the county’s most popular calendar entries, the Royal Cornwall Show.
What initially began as a ploughing match between local farmers 200 years ago in a field near Truro, has evolved to become a thriving three-day showcase of some of the finest things the South West has to offer.
Visitors and competitors travel far and wide to be part of the event, which draws first-class livestock, expert exhibitors, fantastic flower-arrangers, fabulous food and drink, and not forgetting a medley of musical performers and thrilling edge-of-seat entertainment in the main ring.
Although agriculture is at the heart of the event, there’s so much more to explore that it easily caters for all. From locally-grown asparagus, to proper Cornish pasties and cream teas, if you love local food and drink the dedicated food tent is sure to whet your appetite.
Once you’ve picked up your snacks for the day, stroll through the sea of stalls selling and promoting all kinds of wares; it really is the best place to purchase the perfect gift for any occasion, you can even buy a new car, or tractor!
Be sure to finish your food before venturing down to the animal areas where you’ll find pigs (both domestic and rodent kinds), pigeons, ponies, pigmy goats, poultry, cattle, sheep, dogs and many more.
Meanwhile, keep an eye in the sky and ears to the ground to make sure you don’t miss an ounce of entertainment taking place around the showground!
Be sure to jot next year’s Royal Cornwall Show in your diary, June 8th-10th 2017.
