We were contacted by the mother of a 15-year-old boy who suffered serious injury in an accident at a Tesco store.
The accident occurred when he went to a self-scan till to buy a restricted item. The self-service till required authorisation. Instead of checking the boy’s age, the Tesco employee authorised the transaction.
However, as he attempted to remove the item from the plastic he suffered extensive cuts to his wrists.
The injury caused scarring, leaving the boy feeling very self-conscious about the appearance of his wrists.
Jasmine Butler agreed to deal with the compensation claim for the accident in Tesco on a no win, no fee basis.
After submitting details of the claim Tesco agreed that the store was at fault and that the boy should receive compensation.
Jasmine obtained details of the cost of private medical treatment and the steps that could be taken to conceal the scars.
She then entered into settlement negotiations with Tesco. An out of court settlement was reached, with the injured boy receiving compensation of £22,500. This was a good outcome for the boy and was more than the boy’s specialist personal injury barrister had estimated his claim to be worth.
