Music
A/B Trio @ Speakeasy Torquay, Wednesday 19th of July 8:30-11pm
The A/B Trio are one of Canada’s most in-demand small groups, playing the best quality contemporary jazz you are likely to find anywhere. This group is inspired by the open-sounding, chordless groups of Sonny Rollins and Joshua Redman, as well as being informed by the work of Chris Potter and Ari Hoenig. Their material ranges from inventive re-interpretations of standards to modern, original repertoire. The trio’s format is fresh, and their music is at turns fun, accessible, melodic and compelling.
Amadeus Orchestra with the BSC @ Exeter Cathedral, Friday 21st of July, 7:30-9:30pm
The Amadeus Orchestra are once again joined by the Bournemouth Symphony Chorus for a performance of Prokofiev’s masterpiece Alexander Nevsky.
Originally written as music for the Eisenstein film of the same name, this version is condensed into a Cantata. It depicts the attempted invasion of Novgorod in the 13th century by the Teutonic Knights of the Holy Roman Empire and their defeat by Prince Alexander.
It will include:
STRAUSS: Till Eulenspiegel lustige Streiche, Op.28
BRUCH: Violin Concerto No.1 in G minor, Op.26 (Violin: Michael Gurevich)
TCHAIKOVSKY: Romeo and Juliet – a fantasy overture
PROKOFIEV: Alexander Nevsky (Mezzo Soprano: Nina Alupii-Morton)
