The Finalists have been announced for this year’s Cornwall Tourism Awards which will be presented in Truro Cathedral on 1st November 2018.
An increased 189 entries were received from across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, with over 77 selected as finalists who will be in suspense until the Awards Ceremony in Truro Cathedral, when they will learn whether they have won Gold, Silver or Bronze awards. A further 19 receive Highly Commended status, whilst entrants in the Tourism Event & Festival category will have to wait a few more weeks to hear news.
The annual competition, now in its 17th year, saw the addition of a ‘Tourism Innovation & New Business’ category, alongside numerous criteria changes to reflect the ever-changing world of tourism. Amongst changes was the widening of the former Sustainable Tourism category into a new award that recognised Responsible and Ethical tourism.
Successful businesses in the Cornwall Awards will be fast tracked into the South West Tourism Excellence Awards in February 2019 and possibly invited to represent Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly in the 2019 National VisitEngland Awards, in which Cornwall has often been a top performing county.
Awards organizer Robin Barker of Services for Tourism adds: “We’ve been involved in the Cornwall Tourism Awards for over 10 years and it’s remarkable how they have changed. Entrants tell us their prime reason for entering is now the feedback they receive, helping them hone their businesses and service still further, but one thing that doesn’t change is the delight caused by being told you’re a winner. Many congratulations to all of this year’s finalists and highly commended businesses – you’re leading the way!”
Mark Warnes, property and portfolio director at headline sponsors Hoseasons, says: “Every single one of the finalists deserves huge credit for making it this far. Whether they end up winning or not, they should all be incredibly proud of the passion and dedication they put into their businesses.
“It’s that attention to detail that makes such a difference for customers when they visit and it’s ultimately why they end up coming back for more.”
The 26 award categories cover everything from learning experience, spas and glamping to hotels, camping and self catering. A Winner of Winners title and special Outstanding Contribution to Tourism award will also be presented on the night.
