When we were enduring the worst days of the coronavirus lockdown, it brought into focus how important the simple pleasures in life truly are; being able to hug a loved one, get outside in the fresh air for a peaceful walk to clear the mind and even something as simple as getting your hair cut and sorted out!
Lots of people suffered “lockdown hair”, with their usually well-kept hairstyles sprouting out in all different directions! Thankfully the salons and barbers are now open, meaning we’ve got one of those simple pleasures back again. With that in mind, here are ten of the best hairdressers and barbers in Devon.
Aveda Salons, Totnes and Exeter
So, our first entry is technically two salons, but as they come under the same umbrella, we’re counting them as one! Company director and founder Amanda Marsden has a core aim at the heart of her hairdressing: for each of their customers to feel totally transformed in a welcoming and special environment. The business was launched in Totnes in 1995 and those key philosophies have been strengthened over time. As well as hairdressing, there’s comprehensive spa treatments on offer here too.

The team of experienced stylists are highly motivated to give you the exact look you want, working to the highest standards. There’s a focus for the team to continuously pursue education from the industry’s leading academies, to stay on trend and provide the best service.

March Hair, Plymouth
If a hairdressing business can go on to open not just a second but a third salon in the local area, you know that they must be doing something right! March Hair first opened its doors in 1986 and in that time has built a loyal customer base, with salons in Plymouth city centre, Hyde Park and nearby Yelverton, all offering the latest styles and trends, along with the latest beauty treatments. Whatever you’re looking for, be it a classic or contemporary look, you’ll find it at March Hair.
The Loft Barber’s Lounge, Exeter
Often the experience of going to a barber’s is very simple, straightforward and understated; The Loft aims to keep that relaxed vibe but provides a ‘man cave’ style retreat with anatmospheric lounge-inspired space that has exposed brick walls and stylish interior design. All their hair services last 45 minutes, including an in-depth consultation and a tea tree hair and scalp treatment. On arrival, you’re even offered a choice of lager, ale, freshly ground coffee or bottled water!

Stylists at the salon use only the best products and provide a quality service with the key objective of making clients come back time and time again. Stylists prioritise listening to their clients to find out exactly what you want before they get to work.

They also got an award of excellence and winning best training academy too, so they’ve got plenty of strings to their bow! The salon covers a huge range of beauty treatments as well as hair dressing too, so you can get pampered to the max! The salon is coming to Topsham, so watch this space on what they do next!
Village Barber Shop, Torquay
This is a traditional barbershop with a modern twist; The Village respects the long traditions of barbering, but having recently been taken over by Ben Perry (son of the original owner John) and Darren Libby, the team at this barber’s has more than 100 years combined experience delivering haircuts, from the latest trends to the old classics.
