With the fantastic surrounding that Devon has, it’s no surprise that outdoor pursuits are very popular, especially when the weather is good!
To give you a taste of what you could be getting up to this summer, we called on the help of our Twitter followers to provide us with their ten favourite places to do outdoor pursuits, and here are their suggestions:
Haven Banks Outdoor Education Centre (HBOEC), Exeter
Based in the heart of Exeter, HBOEC offers loads of different activities and outdoor pursuits for all the family. From archery to kayaking, climbing to team building, there’s plenty to do and plenty of activities to satisfy everyone!
Jurassic Coast Guides, Devon/Dorset coast
Jurassic Coast Guides offer guided walks, tours and fossil hunts along the full length of the Devon coast. The tours are led by a fully qualified Mountain Leader, so you are in safe hands as you go hunting for dinosaur fossils!
Mount Batten Centre, Plymouth
Fancy trying out some water sports? The Mount Batten Centre is the place to be! Based on the Plymouth Sound, they offer all sorts of different water-based pursuits to participate in. It really is fun for all the family!
Seaton Bay Watersports, Seaton
Try something new this summer with Seaton Bay Watersports. Their fully qualified instructors will take you through the basics of stand-up paddleboarding, kayaking and more. They also offer trips and ‘surfaris’, which are not to be missed!
Killerton Parkrun, Killerton
Thinking of dusting off those trainers and getting back into jogging? Look no further than the Killerton Parkrun. The parkrun programme has been successful nationwide, and there’s now one on your doorstep. Get outside and start running – it’s completely free!
Seaton Parkrun, Seaton
So nice it’s mentioned twice – Parkrun is also available in Seaton every Saturday at 9am. Parkrun boasts a friendly atmosphere which will tempt you into taking up running as a weekly hobby. It’s a great way to relax and enjoy the outdoors.
Saddles and Paddles, Exeter
Saddles and Paddles specialise in bike, canoe and kayak hire, and are based in Exeter. Why not hire a kayak and have a paddle, or take a friend for a cycle ride around the countryside? If you don’t want to hire, you can also take in your old bike for a bit of TLC so it’s ready and roadworthy once more!
Haldon Forest, Exeter
Just 15 minutes from Exeter, Haldon Forest boasts 3,500 acres of woodland with something for everyone, such as the Gruffalo Spotter Trail, mountain biking experiences and more. Make sure you make the most of Haldon Forest this summer!
