The Beach Hut Watergate Bay, Newquay
Rarely quiet, it’s a vibrant place where the buzz of conversation rivals the sound of the sea. The view pours in, there’s sand on the floor, and you can walk in right off the beach and ask for a table. The main space has large sea-facing windows and there are cosy corner snugs with large banquettes. Muddy Beach is a family business run by Christian Dann and his parents, Phil and Lisa. Christian has worked front-of-house for some of the most successful restaurants in the area, and when the opportunity arose to take on the lease for what was the popular ‘Miss Peapods’ café on Jubilee Wharf, the whole family jumped at the chance. We absolutely love the sound of the Muddy Beach breakfast; Cornish Primrose herd sausage, bacon & hog’s pudding, St Ewe fried egg, baked beans fried potato, mushroom, grilled tomato with Da Bara sour dough toast, all fo £9.75. The Twisted Currant is a traditional tea room in Porthleven, Cornwall, with a shabby chic feel (not a doily in sight), a bright fresh space and a cosy welcoming atmosphere. Their mission is to champion homemade food. Susan produces her own cakes, pastries and bread on site, having honed her skills as a baker.
