Devon’s leading tourism businesses have been chosen for the finals of the Devon Tourism Awards which will be presented at a special ceremony next month.
The competition, now in its 7th year, has continued to grow and an additional 24 categories have been added this year. These include Glamping and Self Catering Property, with numerous changes to other awards to reflect the ever-changing diversity of visitor experiences in the county.
This year’s finalists, a total of 75, will learn whether they have won Gold, Silver or Bronze awards at an awards ceremony on Thursday, November 10. The event is being held at the Great Hall of Exeter University and hosted by Judi Spiers, along with a special guest.
Successful businesses at the Awards will also be fast-tracked to the South West Tourism Excellence Awards in February 2017, with nominees in matching categories invited to represent Devon at the National VisitEngland Awards later in 2017.
The Chairman of the Awards Panel, David Fursdon, said: “I know how important the Tourist industry is to Devon. The wonderful reputation that this very special county enjoys in this area depends on maintaining the highest standards and this year’s winners across a wide range of categories illustrate just that and personify one word; ‘Excellence’.”
Rhys Roberts, Chair of the newly formed Visit Devon community interest company congratulated the finalists: “I am full of admiration for this year’s finalists, leading lights in Devon’s tourism industry who continue to enhance the visitor experience on offer across this wonderful county.”
Mark Warnes, Property & Portfolio Director at Headline Sponsors Hoseasons, said: “Every one of these finalists plays a vital part in making sure Devon continues to be one of the UK’s most popular holiday destinations. We put a huge amount of effort into promoting the county to our customers, but it’s the hard work and dedication demonstrated by these businesses on a daily basis that keeps people coming back to this beautiful part of the world year after year and year.”
Awards organiser Robin Barker of Services for Tourism added: “I never cease to be surprised by this fantastic industry! The glowing descriptions of the experiences enjoyed by our team of mystery visitors make me want to go and sample every one of them!”
