There’s nothing better than paying a visit to a country pub, especially at this time of year. Whether you’re looking for somewhere to take a well-deserved rest after a winter’s walk, or cosy up on a quiet Sunday, Devon and Cornwall sure has some of the best pubs in the South West.

Cosy Club, Exeter
Enter Exeter’s Cosy Club and it’s like stepping back in time. It may not be an independent pub, but it’s quirky décor combined with elements from the building’s former days as Dean Clarke Hospital, give it a unique twist. Great for groups and cocktails.
The Cadeleigh Arms, Tiverton
The Cadeleigh Arms prides itself on using local produce and showcasing what the South West has to offer. Under new management, it’s great food and friendly atmosphere has received glowing reviews – well worth a visit.
The Lazy Toad Inn, Brampford Speke
Tucked away in a small village just outside of Exeter, is the Lazy Toad Inn. This popular award-winning gastro pub combines late 18th Century character with a 21st century feel. Cosy up next to the fire with a local cider or ale, after a country walk along the River Exe.
Bickford Arms, near Holsworthy
Located in the heart of rural Devon, the Bickford Arms is the perfect place for a pint and pit-stop. You’ll receive a warm welcome from everyone at this truly traditional local, which boasts a great selection of ales and proper pub grub!
Ley Arms, Kenn near Exeter
Possibly one of the oldest around, this 12th Century thatched pub is crammed with character. It’s family-run and family and dog friendly, welcoming everyone to enjoy good food, beer, alongside plenty of cheer!
Warren House Inn, Dartmoor
Set in one of Dartmoor’s most rural spots is the Warren House Inn. With oak beams and log fires, this pub really is an isolated gem to relax and refuel after good hike across the moors. Not forgetting the incredible countryside views.
Nobody Inn, Doddiscombsleigh
Cosy up in one of the corner seats at the Nobody Inn with a glass of wine or whisky, on a winter night. With over 250 wines and 240 whiskys, not forgetting beers and ales, the Nobody Inn often amazes its punters with such an impressive selection.
Masons Arms, Branscombe
Surrounded by spectacular walks along the Devon and Dorset’s Jurassic Coast, this charming thatched inn is a coastal/country classic. Enjoy a drink by the bar, or light lunch in the restaurant area.
Lamb Inn, Sandford
Recently announced as the best pub in Devon, the Lamb Inn is well recognised for its superb food and fresh ale. Enjoy a delicious Sunday lunch with family and friends; dogs are welcome too!
Rock Inn, Haytor
Nestled on the edge of Dartmoor National Park on the South Devon side, is the Rock Inn. The traditional coaching inn has been offering travellers a place to stay, great food and drink since the 18th Century. If you’re popping in for a drink, we’d recommend trying something from their colourful à la carte menu.
