Devon is full of fantastic meat box providers, all ready and willing to supply you with the finest Devonshire meats straight to your door. There are so many to choose from, that we didn’t know where to start; so we asked our social media following for help, and they duly obliged!
Higher Hacknell Organic Farm, Umberleigh
Higher Hacknell Organic Farm believe that they pioneered the organic meat box. They had the idea of selling home produced organic meat directly from the farm to the end consumer, so they could be guaranteed of the provenance of their meat, as well as getting a great price through cutting out the ‘middle man’.
Knight Farm, Ottery St Mary
All the livestock at Knight Farm is grown out in their own fields. All their lambs are naturally reared on grass, no concentrates, and their pigs are all free range and outdoor reared, as are the ducks and chickens! Purchasing a meatbox from Knight Farm means you can have the comfort in knowing all their livestock are well cared for and have a great quality of life. They also produce Mutton, Pork, Chickens & Beef, which are occasionally available for pre order.
Devon Rose Gourmet Meats, Seaton
Devon Rose’s regular box scheme brings you a selection of top quality, seasonal meat products on a regular basis for a set price. You can get your meat box delivered weekly, fortnightly or four weekly depending on your requirements. You are very welcome to add extra items to your box from their online shop, and they won’t charge you extra for delivery.
Well Hung Meat Company, Buckfastleigh
It’s all delivered fresh, so you can choose what you want to eat straightaway, and what you’d like to squirrel away in the freezer for another day. It works out cheaper to buy a set box than each of the contents individually and through the year the occasional seasonal special creeps into the mix (including veal, venison and barbecue boxes as well as Easter and Christmas).
Kittow Cattle, Cullompton
Kittow Cattle rear Aberdeen Angus cattle, which are renowned for their tenderness and flavour. Their beef is reared in a very traditional way, grass fed and hung for 3-4 weeks before their award-winning Master Butcher prepares it, maximising taste and texture.
With your requirements in mind, Kittow Cattle pack the delicious meat into chilled boxes and deliver to anywhere in the country: your home, office or car!
Riverford Orgnaic Farmers, Buckfastleigh
Riverford fill the boxes with organic meat from a small group of Westcountry farmers and choose the cuts to give you a good variety every week. Everything is prepared here in the Riverford butchery and packed in insulated packaging to keep cool on your doorstep, so there’s no need to be in.
Yeatheridge Farm Meat Boxes, Crediton
Grass fed Red Ruby Devon beef simply can’t be beaten for marbling, texture, flavour and tenderness. The balance of fat and meat is a vital factor in the fantastic flavour. All the beef served in Yeatheridge’s restaurant is produced on the farm subject to availability.
You can pre-order a beef or lamb meat box before you arrive and collect it from their shop to enjoy while you are on site, or order while you are there to take home with you at the end of your stay (all subject to availability).
Colleton Beef, Chulmleigh
Colleton Beef don’t sell to supermarkets or butchers, as they prefer to sell it directly to their customers around the country. They also sell to a few local pubs and restaurants in the North Devon area. The quality of meat that they provide is much higher than what you can find in the supermarkets, and this quality is reflected in beef which tastes delicious and is packed with goodness.
Langs Traditional Meats, Parkham
Langs Traditional Meats started selling meat from the back door eight years ago and never intended it to develop into a farm shop and tea room, but here we are! After successfully selling a bit of meat, veg and then serving cream teas in the garden, they decided to convert the calf shed into a tea room for the rainy days!
Great Dunstone Farm, Dartmoor
Due to the many changes in farming in recent years, Richard and Caroline decided that they needed to diversify and therefore made the decision to sell their meat directly to consumers.
Nowadays a proportion of their cattle and sheep are used for their own meat sales. People buying meat directly from the Mann’s can be assured that the animals live in the most natural way possible. Some of the animals graze the common lands of Dartmoor during the summer months and come back to the farm for extra feeding in the winter. Animals reared in this way by Dartmoor Hill farmers help to create and maintain the landscape of Dartmoor. By buying meat directly from Great Dunstone Farm you will be directly contributing to this.
